Opening Wednesday's regular sitting of the Council of Ministers, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said that the Council of Ministers will allocate an additional BGN 27.5 million to support agricultural producers.
In addition to the BGN 20 million already allocated by the State Fund Agriculture, the Government will provide a total of BGN 47.5 million in relation to the agreement signed on September 20 with representatives of the agricultural sector, Denkov explained.
In September, protesting agricultural producers demanded that BGN 47.5 million under the de minimis scheme come in the form of additional funding from the budget and be distributed equally between farmers in the livestock sector, including beekeepers, and in plant breeding.
Furthermore, on its regular sitting on Wednesday, the Government will allocate an additional BGN 16 million to support small and medium-sized farmers who use irrigation. These funds will cover 80% of the cost of the water they use, Denkov said.
The PM stressed that a letter will be sent Wednesday to European Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski, asking to remove aid ceiling for farmers struggling since the start of the war in Ukraine. "We have had preliminary talks with the European Commission President, we have a Council of Ministers’ decision. With this letter, we are formalizing this procedure by which we want this ceiling to be lifted so that the funds can be allocated”, Denkov added.
