TexTailor Expo 2023 opened here on Thursday. The apparel and fashion industry exhibition will be on at Pavilion 2 of the International Fair Plovdiv until October 7.

The exhibitors from eight countries (Bulgaria, China, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Poland, Spain and Turkiye) are producers of textile and textile products, manufacturers and importers of fabrics, garments, shoes, threads and accessories, manufacturers and importers of leather and leather products, enterprises specialized in manufacturing of ready-made garments, individuals or companies presenting their own fashion lines, design and trademarks.

Guests from 21 countries (Austria, Bangladesh, Brunei, Bulgaria, France, Germany, India, Italy, China, Czechia, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkiye, Ukraine, the UK and the US) at the exhibition include manufacturers of textiles, knitwear, clothing and leather, representatives of and buyers from the major European markets, wholesalers and retailers of textiles, threads and leather goods, industry professionals, representatives of fashion schools and universities and fashion fans.

Opening the exhibition, Bulgaria's Deputy Economy and Industry Minister Ivaylo Shotev said that the textile industry has been one of the most vigorously growing sectors in recent years and needs innovation. Manufacture of wearing apparel generates over 6.6% of the value added in the manufacturing industry, and the textile industry generatyes 1.8%.

The Deputy Minister stressed that the industry has proved resilient and flexible in conditions of crises and the COVID pandemic. "Jobs were retained despite the difficulties, and the industry employs nearly 80,000 people," he added. 

Bulgaria's textile industry produces output worth BGN 4.5 billion.

Shotev noted that one of the top priorities of his Ministry is to facilitate the access of skilled personnel to the labour market.

He said that over the years TexTailor Expo has emerged as one of the most prestigious and eagerly awaited events in the fashion industry.

The accompanying events to the exhibition include seminars and trainings, fashion shows, a specially curated area for designers to be able to best present their creativity, innovation and vision in fashion design, a space for starting designers and fashion entrepreneurs, and a Tailor Your Mind young designers' competition.
