Four people have been injured in a wildfire that broke out on Monday afternoon near the town of Canakkale, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Due to strong winds, the flames spread quickly over several suburban areas. According to Turkish authorities, a total of 736 local residents of six settlements have been evacuated. Teams of the Turkish national civil protection service, an emergency rescue ship, fire brigades and ambulances are involved in the rescue operations, the Turkish Helath Minister added.
Ship traffic in the Dardanelles Strait was temporarily suspended.
The firefighting efforts continue.
