site.btaEU to Open 13 New-Generation Information Centres in Bulgaria

Sofia, May 5 (BTA) - Bulgarian citizens will have an easy and
direct access to information about the European Union thanks to
a network of new Europe Direct information centres, which will
start operating in May in various parts of the country, the
European Commission Representation in Bulgaria said on
Wednesday.

The centres are part of a total of 424 new generation
information centres launched by the European Commission across
the EU.

The aim of these centres is to strengthen the important link
between EU institutions and citizens, regardless they live.
Europe Direct teams will help explain how Europe is battling the
COVID-19 pandemic, will stimulate recovery through information
on the NextGenerationEU plan, and promote a green and digital
transition.

With a goal to modernize their role and mandate, the Europe
Direct centres will organize civic dialogues and participatory
events, for example for the Conference on the Future of Europe.
They will provide relevant information on EU policies and
priorities to local communities, civil society and professional
organizations, the media, etc., and will include them in their
activities.

The new centres will also promote active European citizenship in
 schools.

The Europe Direct centres will be located in Blagoevgrad,
Bourgas, Varna, Vidin, Vratsa, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Dupnitsa,
Plovdiv, Rousse, Smolyan, Stara Zagora and Shoumen. The European
Commission calls on any citizens who have questions or need
specific information about the EU to contact the nearest centre.
