site.btaJuly 2021 Elections: 66 Sections in the Country Go Back to Paper Ballot Voting

July 11 (BTA) - A total of sixty-six sections in the
country
have gone back to paper ballot voting, according to the Central
 Election Commission (CEC).

The CEC decided on Saturday to revert to paper ballots in five
sections due to problems with the voting machines, said  on
Sunday morning CEC Chair Kamelia Neykova. The five sections  in
question are in Dobrich, Karnobat, Brusartsi, Polski Trambesh
and the village of Yankovo.

Later in the day, the CEC decided to do the same in seven more
sections in the country due again to issues with voting
machines. These include two sections in Sofia (69 and 3); two
sections in Silistra (123 and 159), two sections in Blagoevgrad
(34 and 9) and one in Burgas (198).

Shortly afterwards, the CEC decided to suspend machine voting in
another 44 polling stations in various constituencies in the
country. In all of them there will be a paper ballot vote
instead.

The most common defects preventing machine voting are voting
machines that have stopped working or do not print the receipts,
a malfunction of the printing device or activation cards.

In general, the machine voting is successful, but there are some
problems on a local level, said CEC spokesperson Tsvetozar
Tomov. RY/DT
