Semifinal in Tokyo Olympics


Tokyo, August 2 (BTA special correspondent Dimiter Velyov) - Bulgarian top football referee Georgi Kabakov was appointed to officiate the semifinal match between Brazil and Mexico in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The match will take place on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Bulgarian time. Brazil is the current Olympic champion, after winning against Germany in Rio de Janeiro five years ago.

Kabakov will be assisted by the other two Bulgarian referees in Tokyo: Martin Margaritov and Diyan Valkov. Fourth and fifth referees, respectively, will be Bamlak Tessema Weyesa (Ethiopia) and Mohammed Ibrahim (Sudan).

Kabakov's appointment is the highest achievement of a Bulgarian referee in the Olympic Games. The only other Bulgarian who has officiated a match at his level was Lyube Spasov in the Barcelona 1992 Olympics.
