August 30 (BTA) - Health Minister Stoycho Katsarov Monday banned until October 30 the export of certain drugs used in in-hospital and out-of-hospital COVID treatment. The ban was imposed on the grounds of a potential shortage in the market, which could put at risk the life and health of a considerable number of patients in Bulgaria amid a deteriorating epidemic situation.

Despite regular supplies, the Bulgarian Drug Agency (BDA) has been alerted to difficulties with supplies to the pharmacies since early August. At the same time, more drugs have been used in hospitals, proportionally to the increase in hospitalized patients, Katsarov noted. The BDA has been informed by the marketing authorization holders for the products specified in the Minister's order that despite regular supplies, there is a possible risk of a temporary shortage due to an increase both in domestic demand and in parallel exports in the context of a rise in global demand for those drugs.
