Sofia, October 10 (BTA) - Sunday saw the announcement of the candidates for president and vice-president of Bulgaria to run in the November 14 elections of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), the Here We Come movement, and the National Union of the Right.

The candidates of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms are MRF Chairman Mustafa Karadayi for president and MEP Iskra Mihaylova (MRF/Renew Europe) for vice-president, Yunal Lyutfi told a briefing in front of the Central Election Commission's building after the candidates registered for the elections. The decision was taken at Sunday's meeting of the MRF Central Operative Bureau.

This is the first time that the MRF has its own presidential candidate.

Here We Come, which is part of the Rise Up BG! Here We Come! coalition, said in a press release that it supports President Rumen Radev for a second term in office. The decision comes after a survey among the movement's supporters and members showed 81 per cent favour Radev and 19 per cent, outgoing Supreme Court of Cassation President Lozan Panov.

The Governing Council of the movement decided to back Radev also in view of his "behaviour in the opposition against the dictate" of former prime minister Boyko Borissov, former MP and controversial businessman Delyan Peevski, and Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev, the press release reads.

The candidates of the National Union of the Right, which includes KOD and Republicans for Bulgaria, are Goran Blagoev for president and Dr Ivelina Georgieva for vice-president, KOD Deputy Chairman Lyubomir Kanov told a news conference.

Blagoev is a journalist, historian and member of Republicans for Bulgaria. Kanov presented him as a person who "has won a special place in the people's heart as a civilizing teacher for our history, a teacher for our Christianity."

Dr Georgieva holds a medical degree, has worked as a pediatrician and is among the fighters on the front against COVID-19 in one of the biggest hospitals in Bulgaria, Kanov said.
