Greece's ERT Reports on Greeks
Buying Fake COVID Health Passes
in Bulgaria

Athens, November 3 (BTA) - Greek state broadcaster ERT had a story on suspected Bulgarian scammers selling fake COVID health passes in Greece. Journalist Nia Avdelli talked to a suspected go-between of the crime ring in Greece, who confirmed on camera rumours that anyone can buy a vaccine certificate for 300 euro in Bulgaria.

The fake health passes are allegedly most in demand in Northern Greece.

ERT said Bulgaria has the highest death rate in the EU and daily COVID cases are in the four digits. At the same time, allegations that general practitioners issue certificates without administering vaccines are mounting.

ERT recalled that unlike vaccine centres, where jabs are given in the presence of six or seven other people, vaccines in Bulgaria can be received in the privacy of the GP's office, which opens the door to health pass scams.

The interviewed go-between said anyone could buy an EU Digital COVID Certificate for 300 euro during a short visit to Sofia.

The Greek authorities are keeping an eye on vaccinated Greeks with permanent residence in Greece who show certificates issued in Bulgaria or Romania. Recent legislative changes provide for hefty criminal and financial sanctions for testing and vaccination scams. DT/DD
