Sofia, July 28 (BTA) - "Bulgaria is actively involved in international police exchange, cooperating not only with the countries of the European Union but also beyond their borders," Bulgarian Deputy Interior Minister Plamen Angelov said, addressing the opening of the 2014 Summer Meeting of the International Police Executive Symposium (IPES) here on Monday.
Angelov expressed satisfaction that the focus of the three-day meeting is crime and violence prevention and control. From a political point of view, prevention is a very powerful means to cut the costs of crime control, he pointed out. Listing the measures that Bulgaria has taken in this area, the Deputy Minister singled out the Crime Prevention Strategy (2012-2020). He recalled that during the last year the Interior Ministry has developed a five-module programme intended to strengthen monitoring and control of persons and groups connected to the criminal underworld.
The theme of the forum is Crime Prevention and Community Resilience: Police Role with Victims, Youth, Ethnic Minorities and Other Partners. Bulgaria hosts the forum on proposal by IPES founder and President Dilip Das.
Global approaches in prevention of crime and violence, strategies for their countering, good police practices and possibilities to enhance citizens' safety, help victims of crimes and strengthen the law-enforcement structures feature on the agenda of the discussions.
