site.btaPM Bliznashki Calls on PES President Stanishev to Lobby for Bulgarian Candidate's Bid for Job of EC Vice President

Sofia, August 13 (BTA) - In an open letter made public Wednesday, caretaker Prime Minister Georgi Bliznashki called upon Party of European Socialist President Sergei Stanishev to lobby for "the exceptional opportunity that the Bulgarian representative has to take the high post of Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative".

At a news briefing following his government's weekly meeting, the Prime Minister recalled that Bulgaria has put forward Kristalina Georgieva as the Bulgarian candidate for EC Vice President and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. He added that her chances are "not small at all". He went on to urge all Bulgarian MEPs and the Bulgarian diplomacy to work for accomplishing this goal.

Kristalina Georgieva, who currently holds the office of EU Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, was a special guest at the government meeting. She discussed with the government ministers a number of issues, including the situation in the EU, the EU-supported progrmmes for Bulgaria and recent floods.

Later in the day Commissioner Georgieva will visit the flooded areas in the Northwestern Vratsa Region.
