site.btaBulgarian Traffic Police Joins TISPOL Week-long Speed Enforcement Operation

Sofia, August 18 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Traffic Police Monday joined  a European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL) week-long speed enforcement operation across Europe which started on August 18, the Interior Ministry said.

In the operation officers will use a number of speed detection methods across all types of road. The purpose of the operation is to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding, and to remind drivers of the benefits for all road users of driving at speeds that are both legal and appropriate.

In the period from January 1 to June 30, 2014, a total of 3,157 serious road accidents took place in Bulgaria, claiming 283 lives and injuring 3,823 people. Excessive and inappropriate speed continues to be the No. 1 factor for road accidents in this country.
