site.btaEnvironmentalists Start Campaign to Protect Bulgaria's Rivers

Sofia, August 21 (BTA) - The Bulgarian office of the environmental organization WWF said earlier this week it has
started a campaign to protect Bulgaria's rivers. The organization proposes concrete steps to deal with the problems affecting the country's rivers and is seeking support through an online petition posted on its website www.wwf.bg.

The problems identified by WWF include the practices of cutting down vegetation on river banks, straightening up riverbeds, digging for sand and gravel, and improper building of fish passages.
