National Front
for Salvation of Bulgaria
Holds Congress

Sofia, December 6 (BTA) - The second congress of the National
Front for the Salvation of Bulgaria (NFSB) began in Sofia on
Saturday. NFSB is one of two member parties of the Patriotic
Front which is represented in Parliament.

The congress is attended by 208 delegates out of 242 invitees.
It is to elect the party chairperson and leadership bodies, said
NFSB Chairman and Patriotic Front Co-Chairman Valeri Simeonov.

The other Co-Chairman of the Patriotic Front, Krassimir
Karakachanov, is a guest at the event.

Speaking to journalists, Simeonov said he has not heard any
compelling argument against the election of the Patriotic
Front's Slavi Binev as Chairman of the Culture and Media
Committee in Parliament. Binev's election to the post has been
challenged in numerous protests by cultural organizations and
media. Simeonov said he is willing to discuss the matter with
Parliament Chairwoman Tsetska Tsacheva.

Earlier in the day, Tsacheva said in a radio interview that
Binev's election should be reviewed, because it has met with
strong external opposition. Tsacheva sees two options: Binev
could resign, or his parliamentary group could ask him to leave.

Simeonov also said that the most important issue for his party
is to push for the abolition of Turkish-language news on
Bulgarian National Television. He added that talks are planned
on the matter. The Reformist Bloc favours the idea, he noted.
