PM Borissov, Chief Mufti Agree that Rift in Society, Division of Christians and Muslims Must not Be Allowed

Sofia, January 27 (BTA) - Meeting here on Tuesday, Prime
Minister Boyko Borissov and Chief Mufti Mustafa Hadji agreed
that a rift in society and division of Christians and Muslims
must not be allowed, Cabinet's press service said.

Confrontation on a religious, ethnic or social status does not
solve the problems, said Borissov, who had a working meeting
with the Chief Mufti, his deputy Vedat Ahmed, who is also an
acting Chairman of the Supreme Muslim Religious Council,  and
Ahmed Ahmedov, Chief Secretary of the Chief Mufti's Office.

"We must not allow confrontation and we must all carefully
protect the ethnic peace," the Prime Minister stressed, adding
that Bulgaria has a wonderful model of peaceful coexistence and
the goal is to protect it. According to him, "we can still be
proud that we have not allowed a Bulgarian citizen to be on the
side of the so called Islamic State. This fact should not calm
us, but further commit us to take all necessary measures so that
it does not happen," he noted.

The Chief Mufti's Office, organizing the lives of Muslims in
Bulgaria, is doing everything possible to prevent their
religious lives from being placed under foreign influence, the
Chief Mufti said. According to him, the better the confession
functions, the lower such risks are.

Mustafa Hadji brought up the question that there is a need for a
post-secondary school to educate local religious figures under
the supervision of the Chief Mufti's Office and the State
authorities. VI/MY
