First Korean Cultural Centre in Bulgaria Unveiled in Sofia

Sofia, March 19 (BTA) - A Korean Corner was unveiled at the
Sofia City Library on Thursday, becoming the first Korean
cultural centre in Bulgaria. It will serve as a hub for all
Bulgarians who want to learn more about Korea in a friendly
environment - about its history, culture and current
development, South Korean Ambassador to Bulgaria Shin Maeng-ho
said.

Ambassador Shin said that this small yet meaningful event is
part of a series of observances marking the 25th anniversary of
diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and South Korea (March
23). The diplomat thanked Sofia City Hall and the Sofia City
Library for the partnership. He believes that the Sofia City
Library is the perfect place to house the Korean Corner.

The Corner owns 800 books, many of them in English and coupled
with a CD. Its collection of documentary films on DVD highlights
various aspects of Korea's culture, history and economic
advancement. A DVD player, a video display and a laptop computer
 are available to visitors.

The Korean Corner is a piece of Korea in the heart of Sofia,
Deputy Mayor Todor Chobanov said. He expressed his confidence
that the facility will attract a wide range of visitors, not
only students of the Korean language who are already infatuated
with the ancient culture of the Far Eastern country.

This year's programme of events at the Korean Corner includes a
celebration of International Children's Day, a presentation of
Korean art, a festival of Korean food and an exhibition of
Korean geographical maps, Sofia City Library Director Yulia
Tsinzova said.
