Plovdiv Sets in Place Busking  Regulations

Plovdiv, Southern Bulgaria, March 25 (BTA) - Bulgaria's second
biggest city of Plovdiv is setting in place regulations for
street performing, Bulgarian National Television (BNT) reported
Wednesday. The city is divided into three zones, with the most
attractive locations - Main Street and the Old Town - falling in
 Zone 1 where only professional musicians will be allowed.

The local administration said they borrowed the idea for
regulating busking from cities like Los Angeles, Milan, Madrid
and Vienna. They decided they needed to do that after Plovdiv
was named European Culture Capital for 2019. 

The requirements for the performers are more liberal in Zone 2
and 3. Zone 2 covers Plovdiv's central public park and the
central square and will be open for amateur musicians who have
participated in competitions and other music forums. The rest of
 the city is included in Zone 3 where anybody who feels he has a
 music talent will be allowed to perform.

In all three zones buskers will be required to have a badge with
 photo issued by the City Hall.

The BNT report showed one of Plovdiv's better known street
musicians, violinist Georgi Dimitrov. A graduate of the local
music academy, he said he is happy with the new requirements and
 expects that they will end the fights for the prime pitches.
