Former Deputy
Parliament Speaker Bisserov
Indicted

Sofia, April 9 (BTA) - The Sofia City Prosecution Office on
Thursday filed an indictment against Hristo Bisserov, former
Deputy National Assembly Chair and chair of the parliamentary
legal affairs committee.

Bisserov has been indicted on three charges: for tax evasion in
a particularly large amount, failure to report currency
transactions in violation of the Foreign Currency Act, and
filing a false financial statement with the National Audit
Office as a senior official.

In 2012, Bisserov evaded the payment of nearly 26,000 leva in
tax by failing to report taxable income and wiring money from
his own accounts to an account in the name of his step son in a
Geneva-based bank.

Also in 2012 and 2013, Bisserov failed to report currency
transactions to the amount of 700,960.60 leva. Under the Foreign
Exchange Act, local natural persons should report to the
central bank using statistics forms their claims on and
liabilities to foreign persons if the sum exceeds 50,000 leva.

Bisserov omitted from annual financial statement to the National
Audit Office his Geneva-held deposits.

The three offences carry between them up to eight years'
imprisonment, confiscation of property, and hefty fines.

Under the Foreign Exchange Act local natural persons should
report using statistics forms, to the BNB their claims on and
liabilities to foreign persons if the sum exceeds 50,000 leva.

The prosecution service said that a bail of 25,000 leva has been
set on Bisserov and he has been banned from leaving the
country.

Bisserov was an MP for the Movement for Rights and Freedoms by
November 2013, when he resigned. Later the prosecution launched
pre-trial proceedings against Bisserov for tax offences and
money laundering. PK/PP
