VIP Day at Bulgarian-US Joint Training Activity "PLATINUM LION 15.2" in Novo Selo Training Area

Sliven, Southeastern Bulgaria, April 14 (BTA) - Tactical
demonstrations of anti-rebel operation actions began at the Novo
Selo Training Area near Sliven on Tuesday as part of the
programme of a VIP Day at the Bulgarian-US joint training
activity codenamed "PLATINUM LION 15.2". Bulgarian Defence
Minister Nikolay Nenchev is attending the exercise.

Tuesday's demonstrations involve 105 service persons of the 31st
Mechanized Battalion, the 38th Mechanized Battalion and the 2nd
Toundja Mechanized Brigade headquarters, some 300 service
persons of the 2nd Battalion of the 8th Regiment of the US
Marine Corps, and 25 service persons of the 2nd Battalion of the
1st Mechanized Brigade of the Romanian Land Forces. They
simulate combat firing, detecting an enemy and destroying an
enemy with light arms.

"PLATINUM LION 15.2" is taking place between April 5 and 17 and
focuses on building capacities for action in an anti-rebel
operation. The training activity is a key part of the "BLACK SEA
ROTATIONAL FORCE 15.1" annual multinational joint training
programme, which is conducted this year between February and
August 2015 in the territory of Bulgaria and 19 other NATO
Member States and Partnership for Peace countries.

Two more training activities are being held at Novo Selo
simultaneously with "PLATINUM LION 15.2": "STEADFAST LEV 15" and
"BEYOND THE HORIZON 15". Overall, the three activities involve
some 1,200 service persons with over 100 units of combat and
support materiel.
