Education Bulgaria 2030
Initiative
Launched

Sofia, April 17 (BTA) - An initiative called Education Bulgaria
2030 was launched by Labour and Social Policy Minister Ivailo
Kalfin on April 16, Kalfin's ministry reported. In his opening
address, he said that the Labour and Social Policy Ministry is
working with other institutions and social partners to phase in
a new form of vocational training. Dual education, which
combines learning with apprenticeship, will help bridge the gap
between labour demand and supply, he said.

Dual education will be available for students aged over 16 and
employees. It will allow young people to get training in the
workplace and acquire knowledge, practical skills and experience
relevant to their occupation, Kalfin said.

The fact that some people have no jobs while skilled labour is
in short supply means that there is a discrepancy between demand
and supply of knowledge and skills, he said. According to him,
the national education system should be improved by
strengthening its connection with employers.

The Minister noted that the Education Bulgaria 2030 initiative
is aligned with the objectives of the European Youth Guarantee,
aiming to boost youth employment and reassure young people who
feel discouraged. One of the goals of the Labour and Social
Policy Ministry is to give young people equal opportunities for
quality education and training which can make them competitive
on the labour market, help them find decent jobs and put them on
the path of career development, he said.

Education Bulgaria 2030 is a partnership of socially responsible
individuals and organizations active in various sectors (the
public sector, private business, politics, the NGO domain) who
share the vision that by 2030 the Bulgarian education system
should provide young people with equal opportunities for
development and learning in line with the spirit of the 21st
century. The initiative was proposed by Bulgarian MEPs Eva
Paunova, Georgi Pirinski, Filiz Hyusmenova and Svetoslav
Malinov, Deputy Prime Minister for EU Funds and Economic Policy
Tomislav Donchev, and Minister Kalfin. LI/VE
