About Upcoming Local Elections
Sofia, July 21 (BTA) - Although the local elections coming up this fall have not yet been scheduled by the President, the Central Election Commission (CEC) is starting an information campaign about the elections. The Commission will have its doors open for citizens between July 21 and July 23 from noon until 2:00 pm, CEC Spokesperson Alexander Andreev told BTA.
It is important for voters to know that they must have an address registration at a permanent or present address for at least six months in the municipality where they wish to vote, Andreev explained. In other words, voting is tied with the address registration and not the place of residence, he added.
There will be preferential voting for municipal councillors, similar to the one for MPs in the last parliamentary elections, he said.
According to Andreev, the possibility of combining the local elections with a referendum will not make it too much harder for the electoral administration, but will increase its workload. It is still early to say whether there will be a referendum, he said, adding that Parliament will decide this. LI/MY
