Party Urges against Overlapping Numbers of Parties, Candidates for Municipal Councillors in Upcoming Local Elections

Sofia, August 13 (BTA)- A meeting of the National Executive Council of the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) on Thursday decided to make a proposal to the Central Election Commission not to have overlapping of numbers of the parties and of the candidates for municipal councillors at the October 25 local elections, UDF said in a press release.

UDF suggests that the numbering of parties start with a number greater than the maximum number of councillors in the longest list of candidate, the one in Sofia. Given that the numbering of councillors in the longest list is from 1 to 61, the numbering of parties should start from 100, the UDF suggests.

The party argues that this will avert distorting the preferential voting which occurred during the last elections for Bulgarian MEPs and last year's general election when voters marked the boxes with the same number in both the list of parties and the list of individual candidates.
