Only 20 Electric Cars Sold in Bulgaria in First Half of 2015

Sofia, August 14 (BTA) - Only 20 electric cars were sold in Bulgaria in the first half of 2015, the Association of European Car Makers said. Only two electric cars were sold in the like period in 2014. No hybrid cars were sold in January-June 2015.

In addition to Bulgaria, sales of electric cars were also very low in Latvia, 9, Romania, 11, Greece 21, and Lithuania, 22.

In Europe, more than 52,000 electric cars were sold, against 29,000 in the like period in 2014, which translates in an increase of about 78 per cent.

Experts say that the incentives for electric vehicles in Bulgaria are two: a national incentive where the car is exempt from annual tax, and municipal - free parking in busy downtown areas, such as in Sofia and the Black Sea city of Bourgas.
