Taking Care of Biodiversity to Be Supported Further during New Programming Period

Sofia, August 15 (BTA) - Resources have been allocated during
the new programming period (2014-2020) for continued care of
biodiversity, Bulgarian Environment and Water Minister Ivelina
Vassileva told journalists on Saturday. She took part in the
traditional release near the capital city of birds from the
Green Balkans Wildlife Rescue Centre in Stara Zagora
(Southeastern Bulgaria).

Vassileva recalled that drawing up strategic documents and
mapping protected areas within the territory of Bulgaria,
natural and national parks, were financed during the previous
programming period.

During the new programming period, the activities will be
focused on the Natura 2000 sites. Work will be done on mapping
and exploration of marine protected areas and on development of
strategic documents and cooperation with non-governmental
organizations. "For the first time, research institutes will be
eligible to benefit from this financing," the Environment
Minister said. "Money will also be available for other entities
engaged in nature conservation: municipalities, divisions of the
Agriculture and Food Ministry, and the Executive Forest
Agency," she added.

Two calls for project proposals in the new programming period
have already been launched. The Ministry of Regional Development
and Public Works has until September to present its project
proposals, and municipalities can apply with composting
projects.
