New Head Appointed of Plovdiv Regional Directorate of Interior after Alert from Prosecutor General
Sofia, August 20 (BTA) - Interior Minister Roumyana Buchvarova
has appointed a new head of the Regional Directorate of the
Interior in Plovdiv, Southern Bulgaria, after an alert from
Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov about erroneous omissions in
the work of police officers in respect of a road accident of
August 12 in which a pedestrian was killed. Hitherto head of the
Plovdiv Directorate of the Interior Plamen Ouzounov resigned on
Wednesday in the wake of the probe of the Prosecuting
Magistracy into the accident. On Thursday he was replaced by
Senior Commissar Hristo Razsolkov, head of the Regional
Directorate of the Interior in Blagoevgrad, Southwestern
Bulgaria. Razsolkov for his part was replaced by his deputy,
Rossen Tanoushev. The Interior Minister also ordered an overall
inspection into the work of the the Regional Directorate of the
Interior in Plovdiv.
The probe into the August 12 accident found that the
perpetrator, 24-year-old Milan Divekov, was not detained for 24
hours as required by the Interior Ministry Act, although he had
been identified. The probe established that Divekov had been
sanctioned eight times under the Road Traffic Act, had been
issued five effective penalty decrees, and three fines. His last
violation was on May 10, 2015. The driver had not paid any of
the fines, but still the police did not impose penalty points on
his driving record, nor did they withdrew his driving license.
The police did not act either to identify the witnesses of the
August 12 accident.
The erroneous work of the police on the case also led to the
removal of the investigating police officer.
