Chinese Procurator-General Cao Jianming Visits Bulgaria

Sofia, August 21 (BTA) - Chinese Procurator-General Cao Jianming
 started his official two-day visit to Bulgaria with a meeting
with Vice President Margarita Popova here on Friday. The Chinese
 delegation led by the Procurator-General is in this country at
the invitation of Bulgarian Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov.

At the meeting, Popova and Cao Jianming underscored the
traditionally good bilateral relations in various spheres, the
head of State's press secretariat said. The guest said that
Bulgaria was the second country to recognize the People's
Republic of China and that his country is grateful for this and
will never forget the significance of this political act. China
relies on market economy's development so the exchange of good
practices with Bulgaria, which is a EU Member State, is of
significant importance to China, he also said.

The Vice President noted that the excellent direct contacts
between the two countries' prosecuting magistracies have a key
role for the good bilateral relations. "Economic crime and
corruption are two scourges on a world scale and we have to
fight them with joint efforts," Popova said.

She added that she values China's position on the peaceful
resolution of conflicts around the world.

Later on Friday, Prosecutor General Tsatsarov conferred with his
 Chinese counterpart at Sofia's Palace of Justice, the
prosecuting magistracy said in a press release. They agreed that
 the actions against corruption, economic crimes and transborder
 crime should be strengthened. In their words, there should be
discussions, trainings and conferences with prosecutors from
Bulgaria and China on these specific topics.

Tsatsarov and his guest also discussed the structure and powers
of prosecutors in the two countries, and the functions of
administrative and military prosecution offices.
  
At a meeting on Friday, Supreme Court of Cassation President
Krassimir Vlahov and Cao Jianming discussed the powers of the
Chinese Supreme People's Procuratorate, among other topics.
  
The Chinese delegation's programme continues with meetings with
Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva and Interior Minister
Roumyana Buchvarova.

On Saturday, the delegation will visit Plovdiv (South Central
Bulgaria) to meet with the administrative heads of the Appellate
 Prosecution Office and District Prosecution Office - Ivan
Daskalov and Roumen Popov, respectively.

On the delegation are Li Xiaofeng, Chief Procurator of the
Military Procuratorate, Chen Xu, Chief Procurator with the
Shanghai People's Procuratorate, and Nixiang Yibulayin, Chief
Procurator of the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region. The guests
are accompanied by Chinese Ambassador to Bulgaria Wei
Jinghua.
