Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Muiznieks Criticizes Bulgaria, Hungary for Plans
to Use Army to Stop Asylum-Seekers
Strasbourg, August 26 (BTA) - The Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks criticized Bulgaria's and Hungary's plans to deploy military personnel along their borders in response to the wave of asylum seekers.
"Plans to use the army to stop asylum-seekers in Bulgaria and Hungary are ill-advised. Militarisation of borders is wrong answer to migration. It is urgent to adopt a European response which ensures access to asylum and humane reception conditions," the Commissioner said in a Wednesday tweet.
