Defence Minister: EU Countries Should Tackle Together Refugee Influx

Luxembourg, September 3 (BTA) - No EU country can tackle on its
own the influx of refugees, said Defence Minister Nikolai
Nenchev at an informal meeting of EU defence ministers in
Luxembourg on Thursday. He added that if Europe acted with
resolve, then the people would make the right choice.

Nenchev presented Bulgaria's position on the need for laying out
a common EU policy to cope with the influx of refugees.

EU defence ministers discussed EU's military operations in the
Mediterranean, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Somalia.

The discussions focused on possible challenges and ways to
improve the EU training and capacity building missions in Mali,
Somalia, the Central African Republic and Congo. Participating
in the meeting was UN undersecretary general for peacekeeping
operations Herve Ladsous and NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary
General for Defence Policy and Planning Horst Heinrich-Brauss.

The informal meeting is part of the preparations of a Foreign
Affairs Council on November 17 2015.
