BGN 50 Mln Envisaged for Winter Maintenance of Roads

Veliko Turnovo, September 21 (BTA) - Fifty million leva have been allocated in the budget of the Road Infrastructure Agency for the winter maintenance of roads, Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova said in Veliko Turnovo on Monday. Currently, an analysis of the available equipment and materials is being made, roads are being repaired and boards - installed, she added.

Official winter mobilization and readiness of the teams will be introduced as of early November - for the high mountain areas and for the rest of the country - as of November 15.

A combined system of road charges will be introduced as of the beginning of 2018: vignette stickers for light vehicles and a toll fee for heavy trucks over 3.5 tonnes based on distance passed. The additional revenues will be used to finish highways and roads, Pavlova said.

A contractor for the implementation of the new system will selected next year and its first tests will be carried out in 2017.
