Svetlozar Kostov Dismissed as Head of Specialized Prosecution Office

Sofia, September 24 (BTA) - The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has released Svetlozar Kostov as head of the Specialized Prosecution Office, the SJC said on Thursday.

This SJC decision concludes the first of four disciplinary proceedings initiated against Kostov. The sanction was proposed by Prosecutor General Sotir Tstatsarov. Kostov was disciplined for breaching the rules of the Code of Ethical Behaviour for Bulgarian Magistrates.

According to the "Praven Svyat" magazine, the 11 SJC members who initiated the disciplinary proceedings in April 2014, argued that Kostov committed three breaches of the Code: he undermined the prestige of the judiciary, treated his colleague unethically, and breached the principle of random case allocation.
