Socialists, Ataka Party Insist on Convocation of Consultative Council on National Security over Migrant Issue

Sofia, September 25 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP)
and Ataka Friday once again insisted on the convocation of the
Consultative Council on National Security (CCNS) under the head
of State over the problem with migrants.

Ataka Leader Volen Siderov told a news conference that the CCNS
should meet so as to show concern about this issue. BSP-Left
Bulgaria Deputy Floor Leader Atanas Merdzhanov read in
Parliament a declaration on behalf of his parliamentary group
and said that BSP has tabled in the National Assembly a draft
resolution on the CCNS' convocation.

Siderov said that the Government is not capable of handling this
activity and early general elections should be held as soon as
possible so that a new government can come that will "have the
courage to handle the issue with illegal migrants". Taking a
journalist's questions, he noted that they have not discussed a
motion of no confidence in the Cabinet because this requires
coordination between the parliamentary groups, and he does not
see another parliamentary group that shares Ataka's reasoning.

"At a time when the whole of Europe is being shaken by the
problems with refugees, when our fellow-citizens are concerned
with good reason, the Bulgarian Government is acting
inadequately and is about to cause panic," reads the declaration
 of BSP-Left Bulgaria.

"Something inadmissible happened on Thursday, the entire
Bulgarian society was subjected to stress because of the
incompetent, incomprehensible and heterogeneous statements of
the Bulgarian authorities," Merdzhanov said. He was referring to
the reactions following a Thursday statement of German
Chancellor Angela Merkel, who said that Bulgaria has expressed
desire to establish a "hotspot" on its territory - a
registration and reception centre that  will ensure a correct
identification of migrants, processing of  protection seekers'
requests, as well as relocation and returns.

Bulgaria needs now more than ever a single position on refugees,
he said and once again insisted that the President convene the
CCNS.

Taking a question on whether it is necessary to convene the CCNS
so that Parliament can have a position on refugees, Prime
Minister Boyko Borissov Friday said that it is up to the
President to decide. The PM also said that if the CCNS holds a
meeting, he will take part in it.

Patriotic Front Co-Chair Krassimir Karakachanov commented that
the last days and Friday's statement of the Prime Minister show
that the Government has finally gotten up to date with the topic
of illegal immigrants. "The bad thing is that a lot of time was
lost, but this is a not a reason for early elections," he
added. According to him, the Government has done something with
the refugee problem mainly under the influence of the Patriotic
Front. Karakachanov underscored that the CCNS should be convened
 because of the refugees.

Yanko Yankov MP of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms told
journalists in Parliament: "We were quite late in our reaction
to the refugees, the information from the services from several
years ago was showing such indications, but to a large extent I
think that we have caught up and at the moment we are also
catching up."
