European Commissioner Georgieva Made Freewoman of  Dobrich

Dobrich, Northeastern Bulgaria, September 25 (BTA) - European
Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources Kristalina Georgieva
Friday was made freewoman of Dobrich at a solemn sitting of the
Municipal Council on the occasion of the Day of Dobrich.

Municipal Council Chair Angel Tabakov explained that Georgieva
came to the local residents affected by the flooding of June
2014 after the disaster. Thanks to her support and joint
efforts, Dobrich Municipality received financial aid under the
EU Solidarity Fund for repairs of the damages to the
infrastructure caused by the torrential rain and for prevention.

The freewoman award will be conferred on Georgieva the next time
she visits Dobrich, the municipality said.

In a video message, Georgieva congratulated the residents of
Dobrich on the 75th anniversary of the city's liberation and its
return to the territory of Bulgaria. She said that the
municipality has done a great job with EU resources. In her
words, Dobrich has the most beautiful city park in Bulgaria, a
new regional waste depot, renovated schools and streets, and a
strong boost to economic development has been given. "Your
success is a success for the whole of Bulgaria," Georgieva said,
adding that this year the country ranks 8th in the EU for
absorption of EU funds.
