Migrant Wave and Human Trafficking Top Agenda of Mitov's New York Meetings

New York, September 27 (BTA) - Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel
Mitov met with his Turkish counterpart Feridun Sinirlioglu and
with American Jewish Committee Executive Director David Harris
on Saturday. Migrant flows, the refugee wave and the fight
against human trafficking topped the agenda of the meetings, the
 Foreign Ministry said.

Mitov is participating in the 70th session of the UN General
Assembly.

Mitov and Sinirlioglu concurred that steps should be taken to
address the roots of the problem - the war in Syria. "We
appreciate Turkey's efforts to cope with the refugee problem and
curb the influx of large refugee waves in Bulgarian territory,"
said Mitov. He thanked his counterpart for Turkey's cooperation
and noted that it is not just Bulgaria but the whole of Europe
that is noticing the measures Turkey is taking.

The two chief diplomats discussed possible solutions to the
migration problem, including safe zones. "Turkey is a
particularly important partner to Bulgaria," said Mitov,
expressing a wish to continue and deepen the dialogue between
the two countries.

Sinirlioglu stressed the importance of regional formats for
cooperation and praised Bulgaria for its Chairmanship-in-Office
of the South East European Cooperation Process. He voiced
support for the deepening of bilateral relations in all areas of
 shared interest.

Mitov and Bulgarian Ambassador Elena Poptodorova also met with
representatives of the American Jewish Committee.
