Bulgaria, Lower Danube Countries Should Join Efforts to Protect Sturgeon

Sofia, October 12 (BTA) - Bulgaria and the other Lower Danube
countries should take vigorous action to coordinate efforts and
protect the Danube sturgeon, the WWF said.

As the ban on sturgeon fishing in Bulgaria and Romania expires
at the end of this year, the countries in the region should
steps to boost the sturgeon population in the Danube. The
population of the four remaining sturgeon species is very small.
No single country from the Lower Danube can achieve efficient
results and a coordinated approach is needed at government
level.

The environmental organization is ready to provide to
institutions the available information collected during their
work on threatened fish species. Also, a special manual is
available on the website of WWF Bulgaria.
