Supreme Administrative Court Revokes Central Election Commission on  National Referendum Turnout

Sofia, February 10 (BTA) - The Supreme Administrative Court (SAC) has revoked a decision of the Central Election Commission that set the number of voters who cast ballots in the November 6, 2016 national referendum at 3,488,588, counting only the envelopes found in the ballot boxes.

Arguing that the lack of an envelope may be due to various reasons, the SAC determined that, on the basis of a conclusion of a forensic mathematical statistical expert examination, the right number of those who voted in the referendum was 3,489,080.

This number is still 11,505 short of the minimum of 3,500,585 valid votes needed to make the referendum results binding on the National Assembly.

The three-judge panel's judgment is appealable by a cassation appeal before a five-judge panel of the same court within 14 days.
