BSP Endorses Top Candidates for March 26 Election Lists

Sofia, February 11 (BTA) - The National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party on Saturday endorsed the top candidates of the BSP for Bulgaria coalition in the early elections and the places of candidates from the civil quota and the coalition partners.

According to leader Kornelia Ninova, 40 per cent of the top candidates are newcomers.

Stefan Danailov will top two lists in Varna and in Sofia's 24th constituency. Kornelia Ninova will top the list in Sofia's 25th constituency, Elena Yoncheva will be leading candidates in Haskovo, Toma Tomov in Blagoevgrad and Ivo Hristov in Plovdiv, Slavcho Velkov in Pazardzhik and Alexander Simov in Kurdzhali.

Simov said that journalists Tomov, Yoncheva and Hristov are very well received by the left circles with their authentic rhetoric which is the opposite of the cliches used by the other politicians.

Simov admitted that an idea to exclude candidates who have served for over 12 years as MPs is an issue of contention in the party but he said that the party should give it a try.

The BSP National Council decided that the party MEPs will vote against a EU-Canada free trade agreement. The proposal was made by leader Ninova on behalf of the BSP Executive Bureau in order to protect the interest of Bulgaria.
