Government to Give Teachers 15 Per Cent Pay Rise, Effective September 1

Plovdiv, South Central Bulgaria, May 7 (BTA) - A pay rise of some 15 per cent, effective as early as September 1, 2017, is planned as the first step in honouring the Government's commitment, included in its governance programme, to double teachers' salaries by the end of the four-year term in office, Bulgarian Education and Science Minister Krassimir Vulchev said here on Sunday.

In January 2018, it will be possible to offer additional incentives so as to attract teaching staff to outlying settlements. Asked by journalists whether any schools will be closed, the Minister said that, in his opinion, the educational establishments network has reached the limit of its optimization in almost all municipalities.

Vulchev announced that he will have three deputy ministers, to be designated in the coalition format. One of the three, Tanya Mihailova, will be in charge of pre-school and school education.
