Sofia, July 24 (BTA) - The prosecution service has taken steps to strip of access to classified information an official of the National Bureau for Control of the Special Surveillance Means (SSMs) after an alert by the State Agency for National Security (SANS).

Under the law, citizens may request to check if SSMs have been used unlawfully against them.

A SANS check established cases where the Bureau official kept in contact with complainants, including persons who have been charged or indicted and advised them on the content of their complaints. In some cases he personally composed the complaints or ordered administrative staff at the Bureau to do it.

The prosecution argues there are sufficient grounds to consider the official untrustworthy with classified information.

Access to classified information is required to serve on the National Bureau for Control of the Special Surveillance Means. Its lack is a prerequisite for the early suspension of the term by the National Assembly.
