Split, Croatia, December 2 (BTA) - Bulgaria's triple world gymnastics champion Maria Petrova was elected President of the European Union of Gymnastics (UEG) Rhythmic Gymnastics Technical Committee at the 27th UEG Congress held here Saturday.

Petrova, who is Vice President of the Bulgarian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation, was the only candidate for the position and was elected with 47 out of 50 votes. She will replace Heide Bruneder (Austria) as committee president.

On the Bulgarian delegation to the 27th UEG Congress are Iliana Raeva, Maria Petrova, Yordan Yovchev, Krassimir Dounev, Stoyan Dimitrov, and Mariela Stoycheva.

Bulgaria has not held a presidential position at the UEG for more than 20 years.
