site.btaEP to Consider again Schengen Admission for Bulgaria, Romania

Brussels, December 7 (BTA correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) - The European Parliament (EP) is going to consider again next Wednesday the question of the admission of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen agreement for visa-free travel. This transpires from the agenda for the last EP session this year.

The Schengen admission of Croatia is also among the issues to be discussed.

Sofia and Bucharest have been waiting to join the European visa-free travel system since 2011. In a resolution adopted June 2011, the EP confirmed that Bulgaria and Romania are ready to joint Schengen. The EU Council has the last word and it needs to make a unanimous decision, but countries like the Netherlands and Germany are opposed to having the two countries in Schengen.

This past autumn the EP approved a proposal by the Council to give Bulgaria and Romania access to the Schengen visa information system.
