site.bta76% of Bulgarians Believe EU Presidency Is Important for Bulgaria

Sofia, January 3 (BTA) - Seventy-six per cent of Bulgarians believe that the Presidency of the Council of the European Union is important for Bulgaria, according to a Trend survey. It was commissioned by the 24 Chassa newspaper and carried out among 1,003 respondents between December 1 and 10 2017.

The prevailing expectations about the presidency are optimistic. Forty-three per cent think that it will be successful and 18 per cent think that it will be unsuccessful. Trend finds very serious differences between the supporters of GERB and the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP). GERB's supporters are the biggest optimists, while the supporters of the BSP are more conservative in their expectations, although the majority believe that the presidency will be successful.

Eighty-five per cent of respondents know that Bulgaria assumes the rotating presidency of the EU Council on January 1 2018.

According to 37 per cent, the country is prepared for the Presidency, while 28 per cent believe the opposite, with GERB and BSP supporters divided on the matter. Over three quarters of GERB supporters think that Bulgaria is prepared, while the opposition believe that Bulgaria is not adequately prepared.
