Brussels, January 4 (BTA correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) - The fight against corruption is part of the European Commission's (EC) continuous work with Bulgaria and of the CVM process, said here on Thursday an EC Spokesperson during a news conference answering a question about President Rumen Radev's recent veto on the Counter-Corruption and Unlawfully Acquired Asset Forfeiture Act.

"In the latest November CVM report, the Commission reiterated its long-standing call to Bulgaria to step up the fight against corruption, and we made very concrete recommendations on the matter. As you say now, the legislative process is ongoing on this in Bulgaria and we will follow the legislative changes and then we will assess the progress again towards the end of 2018, so we are continuously working together with the Bulgarian Government on the fight against corruption," the EC Spokesperson said.

Commenting the Bulgarian EU Presidency, the Spokesperson said that the Commission has worked very closely with the Bulgarian Government to prepare the Presidency. "On the occasion of the Bulgarian Government's visit to the College (of Commissioners) on the 8th of November, (EC) President (Jean-Claude) Juncker said he was pleased with the preparation when it comes to the Presidency. The College will travel to Sofia for the official launch of the Presidency next week on the 11th of January."
