Sofia, January 6 (BTA) - Saturday saw the launch of a national campaign against computer hacking. "The campaign aims to show young people how important it is to stay safe on the Internet," EU Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel told the media. The campaign is organized together with the State E-Government Agency and will run throughout the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council.

Gabriel said: "New technologies bring amazing opportunities but can pose risks too, especially to young people." She added that cyber security will build trust in the new digital environment.

She said that surveys show that after 2020 over 90 per cent of jobs will involve basic digital skills but today 80 million Europeans have never accessed the Internet. According to Gabriel, the EU member states, the Bulgarian EU Presidency, non-governmental organizations and the young people should make a decisive step in that direction.

The EU Commissioner also said that key negotiations will be held during the Bulgarian EU Presidency. She highlighted the Audiovisual Media Services Directive, and the issues of cyber security, e-communications and regulations for personal data protection.

"We want to ensure the free flow of non-personal data and a chance for startups, small and medium sized businesses to grow," said Gabriel.
