Pernik, Southwestern Bulgaria, January 23 (BTA) - Police in Pernik arrested two suspects in a November 2017 case in which an automated teller machine was blown up in the southwestern town of Sapareva Banya, the Interior Ministry's regional spokesman Ventsislav Alexov said on Monday. The two men were taken into 24-hour custody.

The arrests were made on Sunday when a traffic police patrol stopped a car for a check. The two men jumped out of the car and ran. After an hour's chase, one of them was caught on the street and the other one was intercepted while trying to hide in the water of the Strouma River.

The suspects had been declared wanted by the authorities after an investigation was launched in the regions of Kyustendil and Pernik. Another suspect in the case was arrested back in November. The police think that the group may be responsible for four other ATM attacks as well.
