Sofia, February 12 (BTA) - Bulgarian Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova conferred here on Monday with Organization for Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) Secretary General Michael Christides, Angelkova's Ministry said in a press release.

"Bulgaria could play a leading role in promoting tourism in the Black Sea region. There are plans to put an emphasis on wine and gourmet tourism, which are on the Tourism Ministry's list of priority products for development," Angelkova said. The topic will be discussed further at a meeting of the BSEC Working Group on Cooperation in Tourism, which is currently chaired by Bulgaria.

Angelkova thanked Christides for his upcoming participation in a EU tourism ministers' meeting. "This year special attention is paid to the 2018 EU-China Tourism Year initiative," the Bulgarian Minister explained.

The two also discussed progress in organizing a meeting of BSEC Member States' tourism ministers. The event is also part of the Bulgarian EU Council Presidency's agenda and is scheduled to take place in the coast city of Varna in June 2018.

Christides noted particularly cruise tourism in the Black Sea region.

Angelkova also had a working meeting with Croatian Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli, her Ministry said.
