Sofia, February 15 (BTA) - Bulgarian wine exports between January and November 2017 increased by 6 per cent compared with January-November 2016, reaching 31 million euro, Deputy Economy Minister Luchezar Borissov said, as quoted by his ministry. He said Bulgaria has a longstanding wine-making tradition and produces wines of very high quality which are competitive on international markets.

Borissov launched an open day at the National Wine and Spirits Research Institute on February 14, which was St Tryphon's Day, the festival of vine growing.

The Institute presented its new online platform VinoLab. The facility can be used by wine makers to apply for their products to be tested and to receive test results, and also to obtain advice about how to improve their wine. All test results are stored in the users' profiles and can serve as a database for research and analysis.

The laboratory itself is equipped according to the highest standards and carries out 120 types of analyses of wine, spirits, vinegar and other such products.

During its 65-year history, the National Wine and Spirits Research Institute has played a major role in the development of the Bulgarian wine industry. It is at the forefront of adopting new technology. A longtime innovator, the Institute continues to invest in new methods of research.
