Bird Flu Reported in
Two Farms in
Bulgaria's South

Sofia, October 29 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) said Monday that primary outbreaks of bird flu have been registered in two geese farms in the villages of Garbanovo and Malevo in the southern Haskovo Region. The outbreak has been confirmed by lab tests.

BFSA has started applying the measures called for by the effective legislation. All birds in the two farms are being euthanized and 3-km safety zones and 10-km monitoring zones have been designated.

The authorities are trying to find out what caused the outbreak.

No people have been affected and there is no risk for consumers, BFSA said. LY/LN/
