Supreme Administrative Prosecuting Magistracy
Sees No Reason to Intervene in Concession Award Procedure
for Sofia Airport

Sofia, November 7 (BTA) - The Supreme Administrative Prosecuting Magistracy has found no reason to intervene in the concession award procedure for the Sofia Airport under the magistracy's remit for supervision for legal conformity, the Prosecuting Magistracy said in a press release Wednesday.

The government initiated the concession award procedure on July 5. It is a mixed-type concession which includes provision of services relating to the operation of the airport and construction of a new terminal.

On October 10 the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) petitioned the prosecution service to probe and possibly reverse the Council of Ministers decision which started the Sofia Airport concession procedure. The BSP argued that the Sofia Airport is a facility of importance for national security, and the Concessions Act bans operations that hold a national security risk.

In the press release the Prosecuting Magistracy said also that decisions adopted by the Council of Ministers under the Concessions Act are not subject to appeal under the same law. RY/ZH
