Bell Toll Initiative to
Commemorate End of WWI

Sofia, November 11 (BTA) - Bulgaria joined a worldwide bell toll initiative to commemorate the end of World War One. The initiative was made public by the British Embassy in Sofia.

In Sofia church bells chimed at 13:00 hrs local time in gratitude for the end of the Great War.

On November 11, 1918, church and other bells in the UK, which had been mostly quiet during the war, rang for the first time to spread the news of the Armistice.

A prayer service for peace was held in Sofia's Church of St. Minas to observe the centenary of Armistice Day.

The embassies of the UK, Ireland, Germany, Italy and France paid tribute to the heroes of WWI at their military graves in Sofia's central cemetery. LN/
