PM Borissov Orders Check Covering Past Five Years
into Bulgarian Passports Issued to
Foreign Nationals


Sofia, November 19 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov assigned a check by the Interior Ministry and the State Agency for National Security into Bulgarian documents issued to foreign nationals over the past five years, the government's information service said in a press release Monday.

Borissov demanded swift conduct of the probe.

The check is ordered after in late October the prosecuting magistracy said it had cracked down on a scam in issuing Bulgarian passports involving the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad (SABA).

On October 31, 20 officials of SABA, including its head, were arrested in a probe for bribery, documentary fraud and malfeasance in office in issuing certificates of Bulgarian origin to foreign citizens applying for Bulgarian citizenship. RY/ZH
